Why this petition matters

Started by Mark Gladwin

Further MTB trail closures in Mt Coot-tha are imminent if recent Brisbane City Council Plans come to fruition. The time to act is now! Submit your protest against these closures before they are set in stone!

The Brisbane Mountain Biking community desperately needs your help to stop a recent BCC proposal to close some of the mountain bike trails on Mt Coot-tha. See here BCC Concept plan & FAQ

The recently released BCC Mountain Bike Concept Plan for the Mt Coot-tha Reserve proposes the closure of much loved existing single trails in the reserve, many of which have been there for decades. Whilst we applaud certain aspects of the plan, we believe that overall the Plan severely compromises riding accessibility to 60% of the Reserve. The proposed closures constitute 75% of the trails that our campaign saved in 2019! SaveGapCreekMtbTrails

We strongly oppose the further closure of any existing trails.

Furthermore, the plan clearly geographically separates walkers from Mountain bikers and takes away much of the usable park space and the opportunity to connect trails in the network. It is believed that this goes against a core objective of the plan and key initiatives in the Brisbane Off-Road Cycling Strategy being Accessibility, Diversity & Inclusiveness.

What are we asking of Brisbane City Council and the Lord Mayor?

  • Stop all plans to demolish existing sanctioned and unsanctioned MTB trails in Mt Coot-Tha
  • Implement the qualified World Trail ™ Audit recommendations and engage in the process of sanctioning existing unsanctioned trails and expand the Mt Cooth-ta network.
  • Facilitate improved linkages from the North, East, West & Southern sides of the Mt Coot-Tha reserve (single trail where possible)
  • That the Lord Mayor, Adrian Schrinner, holds true to his written word and not close unsanctioned trails in Mt Coot-Tha and investigate commissioning them as stated here in his letter from 2019 Adrian Schrinner's response
  • Add new trails to the existing Mt Coot-tha trail network with the assistance of many trail-loving local volunteers. :)

I truly appreciate your time to read & sign this petition, and hopefully, we can get back to what we love, Riding in the Bush!
